MEET OUR FOUNDER:
Michel Gingras MD FRCP FAPA, opened Hampton Mental Health Associates in 1991. Dr. Gingras is a graduate of Laval University (Quebec). He completed his residency at W. S. Hall Psychiatric Institute, Columbia S.C. and his fellowship in Child Psychiatry at Mount Sinai NYC N-Y. He also completed a fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry and is certified by the Association of Forensic Medical College in 1979. He joined the USAF in 1983 where he became the Chief of the Mental Health Clinic at Langley AFB and was deployed during the Iraq Desert Storm/Desert Shield war as Colonel in charge of Mental Health throughout the campaign.
After completing his assignment with the military he opened Hampton Mental Health Associates in 1991. He worked diligently to create a practice that incorporated his core values of excellence and integrity. The practice originally was located on Executive Dr in Hampton VA. At that time, it was a single physician practice. Through the years, he expanded it to include numerous other medical providers, therapists, and Community Based Programs of Intensive In Home and Mental Health Skills Building. In 2018, he decided that in order to grow and help more people, we needed a bigger office. Due to that decision, we were able to bring on more providers. Dr. Gingras is now retired but we are forever grateful for his great leadership through the years and the decisions that he made to get us to where we are today!
